Snæfellsnes iron-distance triathlon, Iceland l Saturday, 13th June, 2020
The vision behind Snæfellsnes Járnkarl is to combine tough long distance triathlon with the most spectacular nature on earth.
I believe that Snæfellsnes, and particular the glacier Snæfellsjökull, is the place to do so.
Snæfellsnes, often called "Iceland in a nutshell", is known for its diversity of landcape including moss-covered lava fields and impressive rugged cliffs. The wildlife is varied; it's a Bird lovers paradise, with more than 50 different species (e.g. white-tailed eagles), you can spot Arctic fox around Snæfellsjökull if your lucky, and whales can sometimes be seen from the coast
The magnificent Snæfellsjökull is a glacier on top of a dormant volcano and is known for its amazing mystic powers. Snæfellsjökull is one of the seven energy centres of the Earth and has proporties akin to the Giza Pyramid.
The volcano is the entrance to the netherworld in Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
To recap: The area is the most spectacular place on Earth.
It's important to state that the event is an unofficial, low key and almost a 100% self-supportive event.
The organisation is one person (me) and basically I just want to show and share this extreme place with some other triathlon people.
The event is free of charge.
We do the event together in a group. If there is a large difference in the athletic level within the group, we find a solution to this.
No "show" before, during or after the event - it's all about swimmig, cycling, running and having a day we will always remember.
Please read the Event Reports for e.g. 2016 and 2015 and have a look at the pictures to get an idea of what to expect.
The event in 2020 will take place the 13th of June.
